Commerce-based discount grocer Smart & Final plans an Aug. 31 opening for a new Chula Vista store at 40 N. Fourth Ave, Unit D. It will be the company’s third store in Chula Vista and its 27th in San Diego County.
A company statement said the newest store, operating under the grocer’s latest Smart & Final Extra format, will employ approximately 50. The 32,000-square-foot store, in the recently renovated Gateway Marketplace retail center, will include fresh produce, deli and meat offerings, frozen foods, and organic and natural food products.
The grocer’s non-membership stores include items sold in a range of package sizes, including club and business-sized products, with a self-serve section for dry bulk goods sold by the pound.
Smart & Final was established in 1914 and has recently expanded significantly in San Diego County. Several of its county locations were formerly occupied by Northwest grocery chain Haggen Inc., which exited the Southern California market last year.
