Certain technophiles are calling Cubic Corp. a game changer.
On April 28, the San Diego company was singled out for honors at the Contactless and Mobile Awards in London. The evening’s Gamechanger award went to the contactless bank card payment system from Cubic (NYSE: CUB).
Cubic produced the payment system in association with Transport for London — the agency that manages the big red buses, the Tube, and the other ways commuters ride around London.
Contactless Intelligence, a European publisher and conference organizer, presented the award to the company with the most convincing business idea using near-field communication, contactless or mobile technology.
The Cubic-Transport for London system lets commuters pay for rides via contactless bank cards.
John Hill, managing director of Cubic Europe, said the partners have created a model “that can be replicated by transport operators and authorities worldwide.”
A week earlier, Cubic and the London transit authority won ITS UK’s Forward Thinking Award for Innovation. ITS UK stands for Intelligent Transport Society for the United Kingdom.
