Where the Catcher’s Mask Meets the Wrestling Masks: Fiesta Padres

The San Diego Padres will mark Mexican Independence Day and Hispanic Heritage Month at Tuesday’s (Sept 16) game against the Philadelphia Phillies with a Mexican-themed spectacle and celebration.

Pregame festivities will include mariachi music, folklorico dance and lucha libre — that is, Mexican wrestling. Ten wrestlers will be in attendance, performing in the ring and signing autographs.

The event, called Fiesta Padres, will also include traditional meals at concession stands and recognition of community leaders.

The Padres’ marketing efforts include outreach to the Spanish-speaking community on either side of the U.S.-Mexico border.
