RQ Construction LLC of Carlsbad was recently awarded a contract and a task order, with values totaling more than $36 million, for work being done for the U.S. Navy, according to the U.S. Defense Department.
The general contractor was awarded a fixed-price contract of $20,995,000 to design and build a tactical operations center at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island in Washington state, and to renovate and convert another tactical center at the facility for mobile operations. Work is expected to be completed by Sept. 2017, and the contract has options that if exercised would increase its cumulative value to approximately $23 million.
RQ was also awarded a $15.7 million fixed-price task order, under a previously awarded contract, for seismic rehabilitation of Building 1 at Naval Medical Center San Diego. Set for completion in July 2017, it is the first project in the Navy’s multiyear program to improve seismic readiness of essential facilities at the San Diego site.
In addition, RQ Construction is part of a joint venture, known as RQ/Filanc JV I, recently awarded a $21.5 million fixed-price task order, under a previously awarded construction contract, for replacement of waste drain pipes in the same building at Naval Medical Center San Diego.
The joint venture also includes J.R. Filanc Construction Co. of Escondido.
