Petco, the San Diego-based pet supplies retailer that operates about 1,300 stores, said it agreed to purchase Wisconsin-based Drs. Foster and Smith, an online pet supply company that specializes in pet care and education, for an undisclosed price.
Founded in 1983, Drs. Foster and Smith is the nation’s largest catalog and online seller of pet supplies, and a leading veterinary-owned pet product supplier, according to Petco.
Petco CEO Jim Myers said the deal underscores the company’s commitment to nurturing pets’ health and in meeting the needs of pet parents.
The acquisition is expected to be completed by early 2015, and subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals.
