Legoland California Resort in Carlsbad plans a May 24 opening for its new attraction, Lego Legends of Chima Water Park.

Operators said the feature, based on a Lego line of toys and a Cartoon Network cable TV show, includes the interactive Lion Temple Wave Pool, designed for families with young children, with 400 gallons of water released into the pool per minute.

There is also Cragger’s Swamp, with water slides, blast water cannons and jets, and more than 50 interactive water play areas. Eglor’s Build-A-Boat lets children build watercraft and race against friends.

Other elements include Wolves’ Den, with food and collectibles; Rhino Beach, a sand-filled oasis for shade and rest; and Forever Rock, with 12 new cabanas for rent, and a chalkboard feature that lets kids tally their achievements in water park games.

The water park is among several attractions added at the Carlsbad property during the past four years, including water play areas, an aquarium, Star Wars-themed exhibits and a Lego-themed hotel.

Legoland California Resort is among several attractions operated worldwide by U.K.-based Merlin Entertainments Group, a portfolio company of equity firm The Blackstone Group of New York City.
