McCarthy’s ‘Heart Hats’ Outreach Spins More than Just Wheels

McCarthy Holdings Inc. is giving back to the communities it serves. As part of its Heart Hats community outreach program, the company’s 1,600 employee-owners worked together in each region over three recent weekends to build 300 bicycles and 300 wagons for children in local communities. In total, 30 community and health care organizations benefitted from the donations. McCarthy employees assembled boys’ and girls’ bicycles and wagons in Newport Beach, San Francisco, Phoenix, Dallas and St. Louis, and they presented them to children and representatives from the charities attending the event. Remaining donations will be delivered in the coming weeks. The wagons are being donated to health care facilities where they will be used to move pediatric patients to make the ride a bit less intimidating than a wheelchair or gurney. “I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate McCarthy’s 150th anniversary and to reinforce our heritage as a community-based builder,” said Bob Betz, a senior vice president who oversees McCarthy’s San Diego operations.

San Diego employer Provide Commerce gave a $25,000 donation to the San Diego Fire Rescue Foundation in recognition of the efforts to protect San Diego from the devastating fires. The company’s e-commerce brands employ hundreds of San Diego locals, many of whom were affected by the recent fires. “Many of our Provide Commerce employees live in the paths of the firestorms and had to evacuate. But every one of them was safe, thanks to the incredible job the firefighters did and are still doing,” said Chris Shimojima, CEO of Provide Commerce. Shimojima said their hearts go out to those who lost their homes and hopes this contribution helps protect others in the future.

North County spa professionals also united to lend “helping hands” to those who fought the area’s fires.
