Local Search Firm Lands Rare Google Partnership Status

CPC Strategy — a San Diego-based, retail-focused search agency that uses a proprietary optimization process to drive online sales — was named an official Google shopping partner, only the 10th business to be so recognized since the program was launched in 2012. CEO and co-founder Rick Backus said the honor amounts to a “three-star Michelin rating for retail search companies.” … Philadelphia transplants and Wharton School of Business graduates Chris and Jenny Stanchak have launched Loveseat, a new iPhone app designed to match buyers and sellers of unique furniture in the San Diego area. Chris was the founder of ticket sales and marketing startup TicketLeap, while Jenny was an early engineer at an online payment app. … I erred last week in an item about the recently renamed North San Diego Business Chamber, which has 800 members. The second-biggest chamber of commerce in the county is the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce with 1,800 members. … Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County executive Paul Palmer will leave the organization in a few months to open a consulting firm, with three nonprofits and regular businesses signed as clients. As the former CEO and president of the organization before stepping down last year for a subordinate role, Palmer said he and his staff increased the number of children matched with big brothers or sisters to 1,750 in 2013, compared with 230 in 2011. … The annual San Diego International Boat Show gets underway June 19 on Harbor Island and runs through June 22. More than 150 boats of all sizes will be on display for the four-day run. For the first time, the show will expand the area for sport fishing boats and accessories, as well as super yachts. You can even take scuba lessons. More details and ticket information are at sandiegointernationalboatshow.com. … And finally, this item: The Old Globe theater was well-represented at the annual Tony Awards for Broadway productions on June 8. “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder,” which had a premiere run in Balboa Park in spring 2013, won four awards, including for best musical. The national recognition puts San Diego solidly on the map as a place to birth and nurture the performing arts. It’s a big impact for a business that has only $22 million in income and 115 full-time employees who stage 15 shows a year, most Broadway caliber. The Old Globe is preparing to stage another world musical premiere, “Dog and Pony,” a new musical by Rick Elice and Michael Patrick Walker, who brought “Jersey Boys” and “Peter and the Starcatcher” to the Great White Way.
