ViaSat Inc. has acquired NetNearU, a privately held Texas business, for undisclosed terms, ViaSat announced on June 9.

NetNearU offers what is described as an easy-to-deploy, technology-agnostic system for managing public Wi-Fi and other wireless Internet access networks.

Carlsbad-based ViaSat (Nasdaq: VSAT) plans to operate NetNearU as a wholly owned subsidiary. The acquired company will remain in the Bryan-College Station region of Texas, which will also become home to ViaSat’s Texas office.

ViaSat said the deal will expand its ability to deliver high-speed satellite services and Internet access, as well as add expertise in provisioning, operating and managing public Wi-Fi networks and subscribers.

ViaSat offers high-speed Internet service through a satellite of its own, and it is preparing to launch a second satellite.
