Qualcomm Inc. announced on July 30 that it bought Silicon Valley-based EmpoweredU for undisclosed terms.

Founded in 2011, EmpoweredU is described as a pioneer in the development of an intuitive, mobile-centric cloud-based learning environment that is both device agnostic and operating system agnostic. It serves students from kindergarten through graduate school. Steve Poizner is CEO.

Investors include Granite Ventures, InterWest Partners, Sherry Lansing Foundation and Creative Artists Agency.

Qualcomm (Nasdaq: QCOM) said it was committed to providing students with access to peers, teachers and learning materials.
