Steve Altman, the former president and vice chairman of Qualcomm Inc. who led the creation of that company’s technology licensing strategy, has joined the board of Brain Corp.

San Diego-based Brain Corp. makes the Brain Operating System for robots. Instead of being programmed, robots running the operating system would learn from experience. The business expects to offer a beta version of its product to select developers in the fall.

Qualcomm (Nasdaq: QCOM) is an investor in Brain Corp., as is the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, better known as Darpa. Eugene Izhikevich, who holds a doctorate in mathematics, is the company’s CEO.
