Filling Mama’s Pantry Will Help Fill a Need in San Diego County

Mama’s Pantry, a service of Mama’s Kitchen, celebrates 10 years of service to San Diego County. Every day, volunteers distribute nutritious food items to low-income county residents living with HIV/AIDS who can benefit from additional nutritional support to maintain their health and stretch their food budget. Clients make monthly trips to Mama’s Pantry to select their own perishable and nonperishable items.

In 2013, the Pantry provided the equivalent of 112,336 meals to 814 clients, and the need for this service is projected to increase in the coming years. Thanks to the support of the San Diego community, Mama’s Kitchen and Mama’s Pantry will continue to serve those most vulnerable to hunger.

The public’s help is needed in February to host food drives throughout the county to ensure that Mama’s Pantry’s shelves are full with nutritious nonperishable food. Mama’s Kitchen needs the public’s support to collect 100 barrels of food in February. It is easy to host a food drive for Mama’s Pantry. To schedule a barrel delivery to your location, contact Bill Patten at bill@mamaskitchen.org. Mama’s Kitchen will also make arrangements to pick up the barrels once the food drive has ended.
