The San Diego Foundation has hired Russell Reynolds Associates, with offices in San Diego and San Francisco, to help the organization find a new leader to replace outgoing CEO Bob Kelly.

Terms of the retainer weren’t disclosed. The foundation said it sent requests for proposals to 12 local, regional and national firms.

Kelly, who has been CEO at the foundation for about two decades, announced his retirement in October 2013, effective in the coming September.

The group’s board of governors expects to select a new CEO and president by the summer to ensure a smooth transition.
