Peregrine Semiconductor Corp. says it has begun shipping a new electronic component.
Peregrine (Nasdaq: PSMI) says its new switch is suitable for digital TV tuner modules; cable TV signal switching and distribution systems; multituner digital video recorders; and set-top boxes.
The San Diego business calls the product the UltraCMOS PE42721, and says it is selling the chip for 45 cents apiece in lots of 10,000.
The business says the switch is ideal for geographic markets such as China, Japan, South Korea and Latin America, where broadband TV devices must accommodate multiple radio-frequency inputs for cable, satellite and terrestrial reception while avoiding interference between such signals.
