San Diego based Chicken of the Sea, which celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, finally got around to naming that little mermaid on its label. She’s now called Catalina.
The company, which ran a contest for the name, said the winning entry was submitted by a “Peggy L.” from Urbana, Ohio, a suburb of Columbus, from about 49,000 entries.
The winner got $10,000. Other winners received a year’s supply of tuna, and other seafood prizes.
Chicken of the Sea said for its centennial celebration, it’s taking Catalina on a tour of 39 cities through Labor Day. Throughout the tour, the company will be awarding $1 million to community-minded individuals and nonprofits in a “pay-it-forward” campaign.
