Crowdfunding Could Put Butlers In Many Homes

La Mesa product designer Curtis Micklish — creator of “The Butler” organizer used to stash cellphone, glasses, keys, wallet and other personal items — is nearing his goal of raising $25,300 at crowdfunding website kickstarter.com. As of Sept. 10, he said he’s raised close to $19,000 from more than 200 backers. Micklish will use the funds to increase production of his wall-mounted, wood-built home organizer. He plans to increase output using a shop in Chula Vista. He’s made more than 300 butlers so far using manual production methods, but he can’t keep up with demand. The Del Mar Racetrack concludes its seven-week 76th season with a handle of more than $482 million. That’s a 5.2 percent increase over 2012. One lucky bettor won $376,822.20 on Aug. 30 with a pick six ticket, according to a publicist. … Sweet news. The 92-year-old See’s Candies opened a store in Fashion Valley mall recently. Don’t know if you know, but the South San Francisco-based chain of more than 200 stories is owned by Omaha-based billionaire investor Warren Buffett. … The nonprofit Center for Wealth & Legacy kicks off a series of breakfast meetings Sept. 18 on business legacy mentoring for those who want to contribute to the community.
