Cubic Corp. said it received a three-year, $1.5 million contract from San Diego’s North County Transit District to maintain electronic ticketing equipment for the Coaster commuter rail and Sprinter light rail systems. The deal could grow to $4 million over eight years if the transit agency exercises all its options.

Cubic (NYSE: CUB), based in Kearny Mesa, designed and integrated San Diego County’s regional Compass smart card system.

The corporation, which splits its business between transportation and defense, reported sales of $1.38 billion in 2012, up from $1.30 billion in 2011.
