The South County Economic Development Council said it’s hosting a series of workshops for community residents and business owners beginning Oct. 15 as part of developing a five-year strategic plan for the region.
The first of the workshops on balanced and livable communities starts at 8:30 a.m. at the South County Regional Education Center at 800 National City Boulevard in National City. The other topics addressed on the same date cover education and workforce development; the border economy; transportation and infrastructure; and emerging industries.
SCEDC said a survey of the region that began several months ago obtained 3,400 responses, nearly the 4,000 that were targeted. Residents can take the survey by going online at www.scedcvisioning.wordpress.com.
The visioning effort is modeled after Our Greater San Diego Vision, but designed to look more in depth at the South County area. Funding for the effort was provided by the San Diego Foundation, County of San Diego, the city of San Diego, and South County EDC members. A final report on the outcomes and findings will be released in May 2014.
