Local franchisee Paul Martinez recently opened his second East County Baskin-Robbins ice cream location, with a third planned as a part of a new store development agreement announced by Massachusetts-based Baskin-Robbins.
The new store at 328 N. Second St. in El Cajon will be followed in early 2014 by another in Santee, where a location is yet to be finalized, the company said. Martinez, a retired U.S. Navy veteran and former manager with the U.S. Treasury, opened his first Baskin-Robbins in Bonita in April 2012.
A statement said Baskin-Robbins is waiving its 20-year initial franchise fee and reducing certain royalty rates for honorably discharged military veterans who sign franchise agreements in 2013 and develop shops in a timely manner. The company is scouting for franchisees in the San Diego, Los Angeles and Sacramento markets.
Founded in 1945, Baskin-Robbins is part of Dunkin’ Brands Group Inc. (Nasdaq: DNKN). It operates more than 7,000 mostly franchised ice cream shops in nearly 50 countries, including 24 locations in San Diego County.
