Beverly Hills-based mobile game developer SGN said it has acquired Carlsbad-based game developer Mob Science Inc. in a cash and stock deal. The dollar value of the transaction was not disclosed.
SGN, also known as Social Gaming Network, said the buy adds nearly a dozen titles to its catalog and 11 people to its development team.
Mob Science is a 4-year-old studio. Its most popular title is the medieval-themed “Legends: Rise of a Hero,” which it offers through the Zynga website.
Mob Science employees, including CEO and founder Michael Witz, will stay in their Carlsbad office as the newest extension of SGN.
SGN spokesman Mark Lindsey said the company has made four purchases with $28 million worth of venture capital raised from Austin Ventures. Chris DeWolfe, the former co-founder and CEO of MySpace, is founder and CEO of SGN.
SGN said it is open to more acquisitions in the future.
