Residents and business operators can give input at two public meetings being held by the San Diego Association of Governments, to discuss upcoming construction related to the $44.5 million Mid-City Rapid Bus Project.
Open house gatherings are planned for June 10 at Grace Lutheran Church on Park Boulevard in San Diego, and June 13 at the El Cajon Boulevard Business Improvement Association office in San Diego. Both are slated for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., with more details at Sandag.org and KeepSanDiegoMoving.com.
A Sandag statement said construction is scheduled to begin later this month on what will be a high-frequency, limited-stop bus service between San Diego State University and downtown San Diego, via Park and El Cajon boulevards.
The project includes building bus-only lanes on Park Boulevard, new stations with customized shelters and next-bus arrival signs, and improved sidewalks and crosswalks. There will also be new landscaping, street lights and traffic signals, with fiber optic lines being installed to improve traffic flow along El Cajon Boulevard.
The regional planning agency said the route will be served by a fleet of new low-floor buses powered by natural gas.
