Sorrento Mesa-based Yapert recently said that it received $1.2 million in seed funding for its business supplying content to mobile devices.

Tech Coast Angels led the round. Desert Angels, Pasadena Angels and other independent angel investors contributed to the funding.

Yapert bills itself as a way to get up-to-the-minute information about celebrities, musicians and athletes.

It calls its product an “interactive mobile magazine” that offers video and other image-based trending content from the Web. Specifically, the Yapert service aggregates visual content from social media networks into streams based on commonly searched interests such as entertainment, fashion, health and fitness, lifestyle and music.

Yapert is available for products using the Apple Inc. iOS operating system. It is beta testing an Android product.

The tech startup said it will use its new funding to expand its platform and take it to market.

Yapert raised $500,000 during its initial founders’ round in 2012. Total funding is now $1.7 million.

Phil Kelly, formerly of Motorola and Dell, is Yapert’s CEO and one of the company’s co-founders.
