Consumer Reports Applauds Locally Produced AleWednesday, July 3, 2013
Stone IPA, a product of Stone Brewing Co., got top marks in a recent Consumer Reports ranking of craft beers.
The San Diego County product scored 94 out of 100 points in Consumer Reports’ blind taste test. The magazine tested 23 beers and ales.
“Stone is very fragrant, with floral, fruity and juniper notes from the added hops,” reviewers said of the India pale ale. “Strong, lingering bitterness rounds out the flavors but might be too much for some people.”
Stone brews its ales in Escondido. The privately held company produced 177,200 barrels (or 5.5 million gallons) in 2012. The business says it expects to produce 210,200 barrels (6.5 million gallons) in 2013.
