Manzanita Brewing Co. said it sold its original brewery to San Diego-based Butcher’s Brewing for an undisclosed price.

Manzanita moved across the street to a much larger space at 10151 Prospect Ave. last year, allowing the new brewer to take over the premises and the equipment.

The sale of the facility and equipment allows Manzanita to continue with its expansion plans this year. The business said it is building a new distillery next door to its brewery that should open soon.

In other brewery news, Mother Earth Brewery, which opened in 2009, is expanding its production space to 4,500 feet and re-opening its tasting room at 2055 Thibodo Road.

“We’ll be able to do tours and provide tastes for our customers, and keep our downtown Vista tasting room and store open as well,” said President Dan Love.

The brewery, along with several others based here (the city is home to eight) is making a special brew to commemorate the city’s 50th anniversary, Love said.

Last year, Mother Earth did about 2,000 barrels, and is shooting for 5,000 this year, Love said.
