San Diego City Council Approves Two New Port CommissionersTuesday, January 15, 2013
The San Diego City Council approved two new port commissioners to serve on the Board of Port Commissioners of the San Diego Unified Port District.
They are Rafael Castellanos, a partner with Solomon Minton Cardinal Doyle & Smith LLP, where he specializes in commercial real estate and business transactional law; and Marshall Merrifield, CEO of Bluewave Security, a maker of security products.
The two were elected from a group of six candidates, and replace two commissioners who took other positions. Scott Peters was elected to Congress in November. Lee Burdick has taken a job with Mayor Bob Filner’s administration.
The port commission swore in its new officers last week. The new chairman is Ann Moore from Chula Vista. Bob Nelson of San Diego is the vice chairman, and Dan Malcolm of Imperial Beach is secretary.
The seven member commission represents the five member cities that border San Diego Bay, with San Diego having three representatives and the four other cities — Chula Vista, Coronado, Imperial Beach, and National City— each having one representative. The positions are voluntary and unpaid.
