GreatCall Inc., a locally based wireless service provider, recently announced the launch of the company’s new Urgent Care app for smartphones.

The free app, which is available for iPhone and Android phones, allows users to get medical help and advice at any time from medical specialists and live, certified physicians.

The company partnered with LiveCare Clinic, a provider of on-demand health care services, to offer the smartphone service.

When a user opens the app, they are connected with a registered nurse who will ask the user a few questions and determine the appropriate next step in care for the user’s current situation. If the nurse determines that a medical doctor needs to speak with the user, the user can be connected to the user’s regular physician or choose to receive a call back from another physician in 30 minutes or less.

GreatCall is offering an introductory price of $3.99 per call.

Users don’t have to offer proof of medical insurance and no contract is required to use the service.

The app is currently available in the Apple App Store and will be available later in January on Google Play for Android devices.

No financial details of the partnership with LiveCare Clinic were disclosed.
