Default Rate on Student Loans Prompts Survey

With the two-year federal student loan default rate touching 10 percent, San Diego financial literacy website iGrad decided to survey college and university administrators nationwide to see if their students have the skills to survive the expense of higher education. A news release from iGrad said a campus could lose its eligibility for federal financial aid eligibility if the student loan default rate reaches 25 percent for three consecutive years or 40 percent for one year. … Construction Executive magazine named Sorrento Valley’s eSUB Inc.’s one of its 10 “hot companies” for its construction software. The company’s cloud-based project management software enables teams to manage construction projects, from any location, using their mobile devices. Wendy Rogers, company founder and CEO, said her business is “part of a dynamic group of companies that is changing construction technology.” … The County Board of Supervisors officially opened the $73 million, 118,500-square-foot Registrar of Voters office in Kearny Mesa. Officials say the new structure will provide a better place to count those late-night election ballots, and it becomes another part of the county office complex in Kearny Mesa. Officials also announced the start of construction for a new 645-space, $24 million parking structure in Little Italy. The garage will be used by county employees on weekdays and visitors during off hours. … East Village-based design firm Digitaria announced the launch of a new website for Islands Restaurants, the Carlsbad-based burger chain, and Digitaria also redesigned the website for the Michigan-based W.K. Kellogg Foundation, which was started by the famous breakfast cereal pioneer. … Kearny Mesa defense contractor Cubic Corp. won a $112 million contract from the U.S. Navy to develop training equipment for the Navy’s new shore-hugging littoral combat ship that will be home-ported here. … Finally, Poway-based collectibles expert and philanthropist Jeff Figler, who’s behind the privately-run Figler Foundation Museum, announced the release of his latest book, “Collectible Wisdom: Favorite Columns from the Collectibles Guru.” The museum, which is open to private parties, features favorite pieces from Figler’s vast collection of stuff, including letters written and signed by every president from George Washington to George W. Bush. A 1938 issue of Action Comics, in which the famous character Superman appears, is also on display, as is a copy of the original playbill of “Gone With the Wind,” signed by Hollywood greats Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh.
