Tuesday, August 6, 2013

The U.S. Navy awarded Carlsbad-based ViaSat Inc. a $21.7 million delivery order for communications electronics.

ViaSat will produce Multifunctional Information Distribution System terminals for Defense Department agencies. All four armed services use MIDS.

Roughly half of the electronics in the order will go to Australia, Oman and Thailand under the Pentagon’s foreign military sales program.

The MIDS system transfers voice and data.

Work will take two years. Some 30 percent of the work will be done in Carlsbad.

ViaSat trades on the Nasdaq as VSAT.
