Proximal Data said it received $2 million in its series B round of funding, which brought the company’s total funding to $5 million. Seattle-based Divergent Ventures, a new investor, led the round. Previous investor Avalon Ventures of La Jolla also participated.

Proximal Data describes itself as a leading provider of server-side caching solutions which are specifically designed for virtualized environments.

The company says its software, called AutoCache, can increase virtual machine density by two to three times by eliminating input-output bottlenecks.

The company, based in the University Towne Center area, said it planned to use funds to increase sales distribution channels and develop its product.

Rory Bolt is the company’s CEO.
