Cricket, Radio Shack Collaborate on Wireless Push

Cricket Communications, the subsidiary of San Diego-based Leap Wireless International Inc., and Radio Shack Corp. said the companies joined forces to launch a no-contract wireless service through Radio Shack’s nationwide retail network that includes 4,700 stores.

The companies said they’re rolling out two cell phones, the Huawei Mercury Ice and the Huawei Pillar, this week as part of the national promotion, and will release two additional phones by the end of this month.

Radio Shack said it’s offering a variety of service plans for the phones, starting at $25 a month for a feature phone with 300 minutes plus unlimited messaging for a feature phone costing $40.

The smartphone plans start at $50 a month and include unlimited data (1 gigabit at full speed), unlimited minutes and domestic text messaging plus unlimited music with Cricket’s Muve Music service. The Ice is priced at $150.
