Eight New Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Placed Around Bay

Thursday, November 29, 2012

Eight newly installed electric vehicle charging stations are now operating in various locations around San Diego Bay, as part of the Port of San Diego’s Green Port program.

There are two chargers at Spanish Landing Park, and two at Shelter Island Shoreline Park Fishing Pier. There are also three at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel parking garage at 1 Park Blvd., and one in the parking lot at Palm Avenue and Seacoast Drive in Imperial Beach.

A Port of San Diego statement said the port district is also adding electric vehicles to its agency fleet, and has installed two charging stations at port district facilities.

California is among 10 states participating in a national effort, known as The EV Project, aiming to install more than 14,000 charging stations. The project is funded by multiple sources, including $99.8 million in federal stimulus money from the Department of Energy.

The local region was awarded $300,000 in federal and state grants to form the San Diego Regional Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Working Group, consisting of 17 San Diego County agencies.
