As Holidays Approach, Del Mar Frees Up Street Parking

Monday, November 26, 2012

Del Mar businesses as well as residents and visitors are getting a break from the city during the holidays when free parking is available downtown.

Initiated by the nonprofit Del Mar Village Association comprised of city residents, business owners and property owners, courtesy parking has been unanimously approved by the Del Mar City Council for the fifth consecutive year.

The complimentary parking in the downtown village applies to spaces along 15th Street, the metered parking under the L’Auberge Del Mar and extends down Camino Del Mar from 15th Street to Fourth Street. Signs on meters and parking signs indicate the free parking areas in Del Mar.

Free parking is allowed on the following dates: Dec. 1, 2, 8, 9, 15, 16, 22, 23, 24, 25 and 31 and Jan. 1.

“This is our way of saying Happy Holidays from the City of Del Mar,” said Del Mar Mayor Carl Hilliard. “We want our residents and visitors to enjoy the festivities of the season and experience all our wonderful city has to offer during the holidays in an enjoyable and leisurely fashion.”

The City of Del Mar plans to celebrate the season with other events such as the annual Holiday Wonderland and Tree Lighting beginning at 2 p.m. Dec. 1 and highlighted with the tree lighting at 5 p.m. at the L’Auberge Amphitheater.
