Genomatica Relocating to Alexandria Property at UTC

Tuesday, November 13, 2012

San Diego-based biotech firm Genomatica Inc. will be relocating its corporate headquarters next year from Sorrento Mesa to the Esplanade office development in University Towne Center.

Genomatica has signed a 10-year lease to occupy 68,000 square feet at Alexandria Real Estate Equities Inc.’s office campus on Nexus Centre Drive in UTC, according to a statement from Pasadena-based Alexandria.

Financial terms were not disclosed. Genomatica will be relocating from its existing Wateridge Summit building in Sorrento Mesa, and will fully occupy a facility that Alexandria is currently redeveloping and expects to deliver in September 2013.

Alexandria officials said Esplanade will also include a pedestrian walkway, an eatery with organic offerings, and state-of-the-art meeting spaces for collaboration.

Brokerage firm Cushman & Wakefield represented Genomatica in the leasing transaction, and Alexandria represented itself.

Alexandria is the largest owner, operator and developer of life-sciences real estate in the San Diego region, with approximately 2.8 million square feet of local office and laboratory space. The real estate investment trust trades under the symbol ARE on the New York Stock Exchange.

Genomatica makes industrial chemicals from renewable sources. It was recently named 2012 winner of the Wall Street Journal Technology Innovation Award in the materials category, and placed first in the 2012-13 “30 Hottest Companies in Renewable Chemicals and Biobased Materials” rankings by industry publication Biofuels Digest.
