Turner Construction Co. is set to begin work on a $10 million athletic facility project at the Army and Navy Academy in Carlsbad. A ground-breaking is scheduled for Nov. 10 at the academy’s Maffucci Field, 2605 Carlsbad Blvd.

A statement from Turner said the project, known as Duffield Sports Center, will include an athletic facility building, along with a press box, new bleachers, a football field, and a baseball field with dugouts.

The two-story press box facilities will include restrooms, concessions and executive suites, with quarters for home and visiting team coaches. A two-story athletic building will house a gymnasium seating approximately 650, along with locker rooms and related training and administrative spaces.

The Army and Navy Academy is among the nation’s top military boarding schools, using a core curriculum of college prep courses based on University of California entrance requirements. Turner Construction is based in New York City and has regional operations in San Diego.
