Rio SEO, a unit that was spun out from Internet analytics company Covario Inc. in April, said it acquired Top Local Search Inc., a San Diego business in the Internet marketing space, for an undisclosed price, the company said June 5.

Rio SEO said the addition of TLS will increase its suite of software offerings with “hyper local” SEO software offerings that help companies enhance their presence on the Internet. SEO stands for search engine optimization, a process of improving the visibility of a website or web page through the placement of words or images so these are ranked higher by search engines.

Rio SEO said it’s hired three of TLS’ five employees, including founder and CEO Bill Connard. Covario, based in Sorrento Mesa, has about 160 employees.

Among TLS’ clients that are now part of Rio SEO are multi-location franchisors, retailers, dealers, manufacturers, resellers, and business owners.

Russ Mann, Covario CEO, said the addition of TLS modules will provide Rio SEO with a larger suite of software tools that will appeal to a broader cross section of marketers and retailers.
