Smartphone Photography Streamlines Insurance QuotesThursday, February 9, 2012
Not too long ago, Mitek Systems Inc. introduced software that lets people deposit checks by photographing them with their smartphones. Now the Kearny Mesa firm is looking beyond banking to another vertical market: insurance.
Progressive Casualty Insurance Co. is the first Mitek client to take one of those applications to market. It’s called Mobile Photo Quoting, and it lets a driver take a photo of her car’s vehicle identification number and driver’s license when she wants an insurance quote. The Mitek software takes the wealth of data on those documents and automatically populates the relevant fields of the insurance questionnaire.
Mitek says the software helps people save hundreds of keystrokes — and the annoyance of typing on small keypads.
Mitek offers insurance companies other software, which can streamline claims, payments and the exchange of documents, all by using the camera feature on phones and tablets. Company stock trades on the Nasdaq as MITK.
