Angel Group Raises $10M

Tech Coast Angels, a network of angel investors with chapters in San Diego, Los Angeles and Orange counties as well as the Central Coast and Inland Empire, said it raised more than $10 million in total investment in 17 companies in the first half of this year.

For the same period of 2011, TCA provided total investment of $11.9 million to 17 companies.

The emphases of this year’s companies ranged from a mobile advertising platform and social loyalty marketing to biopharmaceuticals and organic plant food, TCA said.

Among the companies funded in the first half was Cashie Commerce of San Diego. Others based in Southern California included Active Life Scientific, Cadence Biomedical, Emerald Logic and GridTest Systems.

Steve Flaim, TCA’s chairman, said the group provides both funding and mentorship to early stage companies, helping to foster innovation and entrepreneurship throughout the region.
