San Diego-based Good Time Design LLC, which operates several downtown restaurants and bars including Block No. 16 Union & Spirits, Lucky’s Lunch Counter and Bub’s at the Ballpark, has acquired The Fleetwood restaurant and lounge in East Village and will convert it into two new venues.
Financial terms were not disclosed. A company statement said Good Time Design, led by local businessman and hospitality entrepreneur Ty Hauter, plans to renovate the space at 370 Seventh Ave. and open a south-of-the-border fusion restaurant, called The Blind Burro, and a Manhattan-style retro bar called Cat Eye Club, reminiscent of the late 1950s and early 1960s era.
Construction on both venues will begin in September, with an opening slated for winter. The location is Seventh Avenue and J Street.
“Our goal is to transform San Diego’s East Village into an ‘entertainment alley’ that even the hippest local or well-traveled tourist will find appealing,” Hauter said.
