Congo Abductors Can Run, But Not Hide From Digitaria

High-profile Web design and online marketing firm Digitaria Interactive, located in East Village, is making international headlines these days. The agency is working with Invisible Children, the San Diego human rights group, to help rescue kidnapped child soldiers in central Africa. That nonprofit was in the news earlier this month when President Barack Obama announced he was sending 100 U.S. military to the Congo to help track down convicted war criminal Joseph Kony and his Lord’s Resistance Army, or LRA. He and his men have been doing much of the kidnapping. Digitaria created the LRA crisis tracker, which uses radio towers in the remote jungles linked to the Internet as an early warning system to locate the whereabouts of Kony. Previously it took months for word to travel about the guerrilla army’s movements. Fascinating stuff, and developed right here in America’s Finest City. You can read more about the project at LRACrisisTracker.com … University of San Diego School of Business Administration Dean David Pyke has launched a blog giving insights about the economy, accessible at sandiego.edu/pyke. The San Diego Association of Governments has OK’d spending $56 million in regional sales tax funds to improve access at Interstate 5 and Genesee Avenue. Officials think the project, expected to get under way in late 2012, will cost $94.1 million, but well worth the cost … Meanwhile, Sandag is offering a free gas card valued at $10 for commuters who sign up to use FasTrak along the recently remodeled I-15 corridor between Kearny Mesa and Rancho Bernardo by Nov. 20. To grab a transponder, head on over to 511sd.com or call 511 … Finally. Fact or fantasy? San Diego Coastkeeper has published a new website showing how our coastline would change if water levels rise as the climate changes, a phenomenon predicted by many scientists. The interactive tool displays possible habitat impacts in the year of 2100 at Tijuana River Estuary, San Diego Bay and Mission Bay for sea level rise of 0.4 meters, 1.5 meters and 2 meters. Check it out at San Diego Coastkeeper.org. Till next week.
