East Coast Firm Snaps Up Seabotix

Seabotix Inc., a San Diego maker of underwater remote operated vehicles, was acquired by Bolt Technology Corp., a Norwalk, Conn.-based public company for an undisclosed price funded by the buyer’s cash balance, Bolt said Jan. 7.

Seabotix, founded in 2001, will continue to operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of Bolt.

Seabotix’s vehicles are used for a variety of things including maritime security, search and recovery, aquaculture, scientific research, hydro and nuclear energy applications, and inspection of offshore oil and gas drilling operations.

In 2010, the company was ranked 372nd on the Deloitte Technology Fast 500 list, with 2009 gross revenues of $8.6 million. The firm has about 50 employees.
