The downtown Hilton San Diego Bayfront hotel has received a Four Diamond rating from AAA, formerly known as the American Automobile Association, hotel operators announced Aug. 30.
According to AAA, Four Diamond properties represent just 3.6 percent of approximately 59,000 hotels and restaurants rated annually by the association. AAA generally defines Four Diamond properties as upscale, refined and stylish resorts with numerous amenities.
The 1,190-room hotel opened in 2008 and is located at 1 Park Blvd., next to the San Diego Convention Center. It is operated by Hilton Hotels & Resorts, and is majority owned by Sunstone Hotel Investors Inc. of Aliso Viejo, which purchased the property earlier this year for $475 million.
A statement from the hotel said the property has 165,000 square feet of meeting and event space, 3,000 square feet of retail, three restaurants, a health club and spa, business center and nearly $2 million worth of commissioned public art.
