Business Journal Names Reo Carr Editor-in-Chief and Associate Publisher

San Diego Business Journal President and Publisher Armon Mills announced Sept. 23 that Associate Publisher Reo Carr will be taking on the additional role of editor-in-chief in the near future.

Carr, who has been a member of senior management at the newspaper since February 2006, will assume the title of editor-in-chief, with oversight responsibilities for the weekly newspaper’s editorial department.

Tom York, who’s been editor since May 2006, will assume the title of contributing editor, working with Carr on special projects and writing assignments and continuing to write his popular SDBJ Insider column.

Carr will set the overall direction of the editorial department, and work directly with the editors, reporters and researchers on a day-to-day basis.

“I am excited to be accepting this new challenge in a world I know so well,” said Carr. “Our mission of giving readers access to fast-moving events in terms of business and economic news has never been more critical.”

Carr brings a long and distinguished history to his new position, added Mills.

Previously, Carr was editor-in-chief of The Daily Transcript, a daily newspaper in San Diego, and also served as editor of a weekly business journal in Fresno. He also worked in the business world for a number of years before venturing into business journalism, so he has firsthand experience with the inter-dynamics of running a business.

He’s also well-known in local business circles.

“Reo has been a pillar of the business community, and he knows the region’s economy inside and out,” said Mills. “Reo has tremendous knowledge of the companies and business personalities in San Diego County. He’s a natural fit in his new role.

“With his new duties, Reo will further strengthen our ability to report on local business news,” added Mills.

Meanwhile, York will help continue our reputation of the paper as a critical source of local business news, said Mills.

“Tom has had a long, successful history of editing weekly business publications and he has made major contributions to the San Diego Business Journal since accepting the editor’s position on May 31, 2006, when he relocated to San Diego from the San Francisco Bay Area,” said Mills. “I personally look forward to continue working with Reo and Tom in their new positions.”
