Cart Mart Aquires Pacific Golf Cars

Cart Mart, a San Marcos-based distributor of golf and industrial carts, said Oct. 8 that it acquired Pacific Golf Cars for an undisclosed price.

The smaller Pacific Golf, based in Escondido, had annual sales of about $3 million and 12 people. The combined annual sales for Cart Mart for the fiscal year ending in March should reach about $10 million, while total staffing is 48, says President Brian Rott.

“This is our biggest acquisition, and with the combination of our companies, and the experienced, well-respected people from Pacific, this will help us to be a dominant player in this industry in the region,” Rott said.

Despite the recession, Cart Mart’s business this year is dong fairly well thanks to an increase in revenue from its rental and servicing unit. It’s also getting some nice increases in its international sales, which makes up about 15 percent of the total, Rott says.

With the acquisition, Cart Mart picks up another brand name that it previously didn’t have, Club Car. It already carried Yamaha, Fairplay and Taylor-Dunn.

Cart Mart is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, having been founded in El Paso, Texas, in 1959 by Ben Bellman, Rott’s grandfather. He moved the firm to San Marcos in 1972 because the location was close to numerous golf courses.
