Surf Museum Preparing for May 14 Fundraiser in Oceanside

The California Surf Museum is holding its second annual fundraiser May 14 at its new location in Oceanside. Funds generated from the gala will help the museum provide new audiovisual displays The San Diego Futures Foundation donated its 20,000th computer to a family participating in the San Diego Broadband Initiative at Kearny High School. Each year, the county of San Diego, through Northrop Grumman, replaces one-third of its computers, which are refurbished and distributed to area nonprofits Armstrong Egg Farms donated 54,000 eggs to Feeding America San Diego for Easter. San Diego Gas & Electric employees hosted a stuffed bunny drive in partnership with Armstrong State Farm Insurance awarded $1,000 educational grants to seven nonprofits in the region. Those receiving grants included the Urban Corps of San Diego, San Diego Housing Commission and Nativity Prep Academy Waste Management in San Diego County joined Mothers Against Drunk Driving at its annual recognition luncheon to honor 35 law enforcement officers from county agencies Scot Sandstrom, owner of New Pointe Communities, is donating $1,000 to RB United for each home he rebuilds for survivors of the October 2007 wildfires. Previously known as the Rancho Bernardo United Coalition, the agency is a long-term recovery center that assists fire-impacted families locally The Friends of Scott Foundation hosted a prom night April 24 for teens with cancer. The annual event was held at the San Diego Hall of Champions and participants received movie star treatment as they arrived by limousines funded by the Drew Brees Dream Foundation. Friar Tux provided tuxes, and various organizations donated gowns for the young ladies. Xtreme Fun provided music for the party The Rady Pinnacle Awards & Alumni Gala is scheduled for May 17 at the UC San Diego Rady School of Management. Underwriters and sponsors include The Burnham Foundation, Merrill Lynch Private Banking and Investment Group, Harris Consulting and American Assets St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center held its annual Morning Glory Jazz Brunch on April 18. Sycuan Casino & Resort, Poste Haste, Rossin Steel and San Diego County Credit Union were among sponsors of the event, which benefited the Organic Garden Center … We erred in our April 27 column, and want to clarify one of the items We wrote that the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation awarded scholarships to 19 San Diego area students worth $380,000, given at the rate of $20,000 a year. Actually, each student will receive $20,000 from the foundation to be used in the next six years.
