Callaway, Perry Ellis to Collaborate

Callaway Golf, which is based in Carlsbad, reached an agreement with Perry Ellis International to design, manufacture and distribute Callaway golf and sportswear apparel in the United States, Canada, Latin America and the Caribbean. Both are publicly traded companies.

Terms of the March 19 announcement were not disclosed.

Perry Ellis will service better department and specialty retailers while Callaway Golf will service golf-course pro shops and sporting goods stores via its newly created soft goods sales force. Perry Ellis will also embroider, embellish and warehouse products for Callaway.

Perry Ellis designs will begin shipping in 2010, Callaway Golf said.

Callaway Golf is traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol ELY. Shares closed March 19 at $6.90, up 4 percent from the previous day’s closing price.

Perry Ellis trades on Nasdaq under PERY. Its shares closed March 19 at $3.95, down 15 percent from the previous day’s close.
