BAE Gets Work on Two of Fleet’s Newest Ships

BAE Systems said March 7 that it received a contract for work on two of the Navy’s newest ships. The deal has an initial value of $11.3 million and is expected to grow.

BAE Systems Ship Repair in San Diego will perform the work on the amphibious transport dock ships USS New Orleans and USS Green Bay as part of their preparation for service.

The Navy will commission the USS New Orleans in its namesake city on March 10. BAE’s San Diego shipyard is tentatively scheduled to begin work on the ship in May.

The Green Bay has yet to be commissioned.

BAE Systems’ three-year contract could reach a price of $54.7 million if all options are exercised. The Naval Sea Systems Command awarded the contract.

Based in England, BAE Systems has more than 86,000 employees worldwide.
