Intuit Issues Apology as IRS Extends Deadline for Online Filing

Tax filing day was April 19?

It was, for customers who experienced problems with Intuit’s TurboTax software and related programs.

The Internal Revenue Service, in an April 18 press release, said it extended its filing deadline to midnight April 19, for taxpayers who were unable to file their tax returns online using Intuit software products.

Intuit servers slowed down markedly on April 17 during a crush of last-minute filers.

The company, which is based in Mountain View but has much of its TurboTax operation in San Diego, issued an apology to customers who tried to file April 17. Intuit has 1,200 employees locally.

In other news, Intuit announced April 19 that it sold 14.4 million units of its TurboTax federal product, a 5 percent increase from last year.
