New Service Is ‘Ripping’ Right Along

Correction:

The June 12, 2006 small-business trends column incorrectly identified Sean Manzanares as having left his job with Los Alamitos, Calif.-based Crestron West to launch Ripping Revolution in San Marcos. Manzanares is, in fact, working both jobs for the time being.

The San Diego Business Journal

regrets the error.

With iPods and MP3 players here to stay, it looks as though compact discs are next in line to join cassettes, Beta tapes and eight-tracks in that great big audio graveyard of yesteryear. But a new start-up in San Marcos hopes to make that loss just a little less painful.

Ripping Revolution is a small audio conversion service launched last month by Sean Manzanares, a 15-year veteran of the computer software and consumer electronic industry. Using the latest in robotics technology, Manzanares’ startup can convert hundreds of compact discs per hour into digital formats that can be downloaded to various personal music devices.

“After investing thousands of dollars in hundreds of CDs, why not invest a few more dollars and save tons of time by having your music quickly, professionally and accurately ripped?” Manzanares said. “Music listeners can have an entire CD converted to digital format for practically the same price as one downloaded tune.”

Self-funded, Ripping Revolution is entering the marketplace with only three employees.

The service, which costs $1.30 to “rip” each compact disc, is available to both consumers and audio/video dealers.

The process takes just 60 minutes to rip hundreds of compact discs using Ripping Revolution’s technology. The rip kit comes with instructions and materials to mail in compact discs collections that will later be returned in full along with a new converted version.
