U.S. Microbics’ Process Passes Field Testing

U.S. Microbics’ Process Passes Field Testing

The Mexican subsidiary of a Carlsbad-based company released positive results for a field test of its process to improve crop yields without commercial fertilizer.

U.S. Microbics Inc. announced Dec. 3 that its agricultural subsidiary, Natura Agricultura, completed a field trial of the BioSystem Microbic Treatment in Culiacan, Mexico.

During the 18-month trial, sugar cane fields treated with Natura’s proprietary blend of natural microbes and no commercial fertilizer, showed a 35 percent increase in yield over conventionally grown crops, said Rene Palomares, president of Natura.

Robert C. Brehm, chief executive officer of U.S. Microbics, added that the process has many benefits for the environment. Not only does the process require no fertilizer, but it also uses less water, reducing runoff, he said.

Brehm noted that sugar is a multibillion dollar industry worldwide, giving U.S. Microbics plenty of opportunity to market its services.

U.S. Microbics, whose stock symbol on the over-the-counter bulletin board is BUGS, traded at 7 cents a share as of Dec. 9. Its 52-week high was 56 cents a share, while its 52-week low was 7 cents a share.
