Several San Diego stations are among nominees for the MegaBlast Awards, which were created to go along with the Radio Music Awards that will take place in Las Vegas on Nov. 4.

The Radio Music Awards have one radio industry award , air personality of the year. DJs from markets such as Los Angeles, Dallas, New York, Nashville, Tenn., and Tampa, Fla., are nominees.

The MegaBlast Awards, which will be presented at a reception and pre-awards party Nov. 3, offer additional awards in different formats and recognize other music industry professionals.

From San Diego, KFMB-FM had five nominations. The station, commonly known as Star 100.7, was nominated for: Hot Adult Contemporary Station of the Year; Assistant Program Director/Assistant Music Director of the Year, for Jen Sewell; Air Personality of the Year, for morning personalities Jeff and Jer; Kim Leeds for Marketing Director of the Year; and Jeff and Jer producer Tommy Sablan for Radio Show Producer of the Year.

KSON was nominated twice. It’s a nominee for Country Station of the Year, and Greg Fry was nominated for Assistant Program Director/Assistant Music Director of the Year.

XTRA-FM also garnered two nominations, one for Rock/Alternative Station of the Year and the other for Program Director/Music Director of the Year, for Bryan Schock.

Status Chart: Miriello Grafico, Inc. is in the midst of redesigning the brand for San Diego North Convention & Visitors Bureau. The new look will feature a starfish in the background of the organization’s name. The catch phrase is “Authentic. Diverse. California.” Blue Moon Communications, which has offices in San Diego and Las Vegas, recently signed local hardwood flooring company Zauss Goodwin and synthetic botanical and floral company The Natural Touch, the latter of which has offices in San Diego and Las Vegas as well. Friedstedt International, Inc. recently signed local firm Anonymizer.com, which focuses on Internet privacy technologies. Four Square Productions recently added DVD authoring to its capabilities. It is using the Spruce System. Corbae & Co. will handle PR for local firm GlobalDigitalCommerce.com Inc. D & H; Imagewerks recently designed the packaging and advertising for San Jose-based Infogrames’s new release, Xtreme Sports. Locally based Hansen Associates recently completed the design and production of a new graphic identity for the annual holiday event Carols by Candlelight, which is sponsored by Cox Communications. Fleishman Hillard’s San Diego office recently signed digital photo imaging company Phogenix Imaging and wireless manufacturer Kyocera Wireless Corp. for PR services. Advertising agency, Infuze, Inc., was recently launched in Carlsbad. Infuze is headed by Chuck Buck. With a site that includes a photo studio and working kitchen for food packaging design, Infuze plans to work in marketing, design and in-house photography. The company currently is designing food packaging for several Northern California-based companies and dairies, Buck said.

Sound Bites: John P. Puerner, Los Angeles Times publisher and president, will be speaking to the San Diego Communications Council on Nov. 10. Puerner’s topic: “The Future of Communication: Newspapers in the Age of the Internet.” Gale Tobin, president and founder of Gale Tobin & Associates, was named “Industry Professional of the Year” by the Building Industry of San Diego County. The San Diego Convention & Visitors Bureau’s tourism awareness campaign, called “San Diego Tourism: Our Business, Your Pleasure,” won a 2000 Odyssey Award from the Travel Industry Association of America. The bureau’s advertising campaign is designed by Downtown firm Di Zinno-Thompson Integrated Marketing Solutions.
